These clients initially came to us with a vision to build a luxury custom home in Awbrey Butte that would have a refined Northwest lodge-style feel. Their goal was to build a home that included their entire living space on the first floor and use the lower levels of their new home as added space to accommodate visiting family and friends. This also allowed them to take advantage of the incredible views they had in the main living spaces of their home.

We were able to help them build an award-winning luxury custom home that brought their vision to life, incorporating beautiful mountain views into all the main living spaces of their new Awbrey Butte home.

Challenges In Building This Luxury Custom Home In Awbrey Butte

The location of this property in Awbrey Butte, where this home was to be built, was on a steep downhill slope. This slope made engineering and designing the home more complicated. It also made the construction process more challenging. One benefit of this slope was that it was easier to build additional space on the lower levels of the home that still had amazing mountain views.

Another challenge we had was related to the neighborhood CC&Rs. In Awbrey Butte, each property has a building circle in which any residence must be built. This property’s building circle was in a challenging location, so we worked with the Awbrey Butte on a few concessions related to the building circle for these clients.

Inclusions For This Custom Home In Awbrey Butte

For this project, our team worked on all aspects of the custom home build from initial feasibility and design to permitting and architectural review, and general contractor for their building and construction through to landscaping on the home.

Custom Elements

We really enjoyed working on this project, where we had the opportunity to incorporate many unique and custom elements that really brought together the vision these clients had for the design of their home, plus the functionality they were looking for, which was not necessarily in line with a traditional home build.

Because of the slope of this property, the main floor of the home, where the front entrance was located, was the upper level, and other floors were built below. This primary level was designed to include all main rooms of the home so that this single floor would function as the everyday living space.

On lower levels of the home were several guest bedrooms, all of which included ensuite bathrooms, and auxiliary rooms like a wine cellar and theater room. Almost every room was designed to take advantage of the mountain views from the property. The few rooms that didn’t have a view were used as spaces where you wouldn’t want the view or natural light, including the wine cellar and the theater room. At the time, the theater room was a unique addition to any home.

Another feature we incorporated was vaulted and coffered ceilings throughout the main living area. This gave the space a more open and grand feel, which balanced the use of natural wood and let in more natural light.

Using Wood Throughout For A Lodge Style Feel

The entire home incorporated selective use of natural wood elements to create the lodge style aesthetic these clients were looking for, without making the home feel like a cabin. These elements included decorative wood beams on the ceiling, natural wood window framing and kitchen cabinetry, and, uniquely, a full wood surround on the fireplace in the main living room.

Elements We Loved

There were several elements we really liked about this luxury custom home build in Awbrey Butte. First, we really liked how nearly every room of the home, both on the upper and lower levels, took advantage of the views of Mt. Jefferson.

We also liked the interesting design of the countertop in the powder room. It was cut in a unique way, adding interest to a space that is often overlooked.

One other element we particularly liked was that the upper deck was waterproofed, serving as a roof for the deck below, creating a dry area to enjoy the views, no matter what the weather.
